A: It all comes down to abuse, maintenance and a lot of luck. I have one friend who drives a vintage Datzun Z with over a quarter million miles on it still with original internal engine components. I've also had a friends engine explode with less than 10k (after a day at the track) If you know it's history, you'll have a easier time predicting it's future.
