Q: Belts should last longer then 30k and 2 1/2 yrs. Why would this belt be damaged already. Shouldn't my warranty cover that? I don't think that falls under normal maintenance. Also after my car runs for a little while with the A/C blowing there is a noticeable vibration that's rough for 30 sec and then tapers off for another 30 sec and it just repeats that cycle. The tech had no idea why it was doing that. The car is an 06 Aerio. My bosses sister just had her 04 Aerio in the shop for a new A/C clutch. Do these Aerios have a lot of A/C issues? Also what about that serpentine belt it appears to look good I've had it checked before. I live in FL could this climate dry it out could the humidity have an affect on the belt? If it looks good then do you think a dressing is all the belt needs?
A: 1. Never EVER treat a belt with "belt dressing", that is the one sure way to ruin the belt. 2. You fail to mention what is wrong with the belt? Belts are not covered under warranty, they are maintenance. Why? They are exposed to the elements and can get contaminated causing squeak.squeal, or chirping. 3. Aerio A/C issues are not any greater than any other car. 4. Rpm issues: Get your 30k done, consisting of tune-up, clean injectors, clean throttle, and coolant flush and several other little things.
