Q: I have a 1998 pontiac grand prix gtp and there is a knoking noise coming from harmonic balancer any suggestions?
A: Be sure it's the balancer!! Some balancers are mounted in rubber. Over time they deteriorate.As the rubber breaks off and falls away,the balancer starts to "bounce" off ltself.Turn the car off,grab the belt or the alternator pulley,and try to rotate it by hand. Watch the balancer to see if it moves.It shouldn't move,but if it does,replace the balancer.
