Q: im looking at buying a 205 gti, but im not sure what one to get. Im looking at a 1.9 or a mi16 engine one, i no that the mi16 is not a standard engine in the 205 but the 1.9 is. Im a little worried about the heavy steering and abused examples as well, i had an evo 4 gsr before but got rid of it because i got another baby on the way so i just want something to have some fun in. And are these cars really that good? my cousin has a 205 gti and now a R32 GTR and wont sell his pug. Any feed back would be a help, Thanks
A: A 205 will be at least 10 years old by now. This is fine if you like old cars and will work on it yourself, ALWAYS. I own 3, 205's, none of which is a gti model..but I am always fixing / replacing / working on little things. Just this week I had to change a headlamp (glass just fell out while driving), a thermostat (very little heat in winter), and clean out the lamps above the license plate (no light at night, due to corrosion). I predict that your 10 year old 205 will also have the following nagging problems: drivers door lock is worn out. rusty brake lines over top of the petrol tank. sunroof drips water on your shoulder . one or both cooling fans needs replaced. Write me if you need a list for 205's that are 15 -20 years old. I have even owned 205 's since it's introduction in 1983.
