steering ram cover!!!?

Q: the steering ram has gone on my peugeot 306 td, ive purchased a second hand ram but been told i need to buy a cover for it, but i aint got a clue what im looking for, I would phone peugeot but they are closed now. Anyone know what i should be asking for, maybe if i know what to call the part, i might be able to shop around and get it cheaper! thanks

A: I believe you mean the steering RACK will be replaced. And you need a cover... this is a rubber bellows that expands and contracts as you turn the steering wheel. The rubber bellows keeps dirt and rain off the greased steering arms. There are two bellows, identical, and they tear from age. They cannot be added later, they are installed during the fitting of the new rack. Here is a photo of a rack and pinion, with the two black, rubber bellows near the ends. its not from a 306, but a similar photo.... good luck.http://benlogworld.en.alibaba.com/product/0/205083808/Others/Steering_Gear_Rack_and_Pinion/showimg.html
