Please help - Peugeot 206 cutting out?

Q: Hi, can anyone help I have a peugeot 206 2001 - it's done 63,000 miles and has just started cutting out when slowing down and passing through the gears. It's an intermittent problem which is getting worse. No problems show on the diagnostic test and the garage have suggested leaving the car with them to find the problem - however it would be like looking for a needle in a haystack and cost me a lot of money. Has anyone had this problem and fixed it - where do I start? Many thanks - paulineb

A: Your issues are symptomatic of LOADS of problems! So someone else who has had the same symptom may very well have actually had a completely different problem. If you listen to what others tell you is the solution then you are trusting to blind luck but with the illusion of cause-effect control (a similar psychological process to superstition). It could end up being more expensive than leaving it to the professionals, at least with them you know the problem will be resolved. Most likely an update of your engine ECU will solve the problem, this will not be expensive, takes 5 - 30 mins depending on the size of the update, and is the most common solution. I cannot stress enough how many different problems will cause the symptoms that you describe.
