Q: i own a peugeot 106xsi 1.4 , its getting hot(the temp needle is sitting high) and does not have to have been running for long , and it uses water an oil but there is no oil in water an no water in oil was thinking head gasket ,i put a new thermostate on but it still doing it , any ideas on what it could be causing it ,,,,thank you ,,,

A: You will leak oil if your temperature goes too high as the oil pressure will shoot up. How hot is it getting?- when it gets hot, does hot air stop coming out of your internal vents?- if so, it might be your heater matrix (same thing happened with my 306 xsi). If your passenger footwell feels damp, you can be sure this is the problem. You may have an air lock in your radiator system... open all the little tap valves in the system and run the engine while topping it up with water (don't forget to close them again). -However, this wouldn't explain why you're losing water. My money is on the heater matrx though... keep your internal vents on hot when there's a problem, and see if you still get hot air all the time like you should. Be aware that the temperature probe is intrusive (is needs to be submerged in water to work), so if you are out of water, the engine is probably much hotter than the needle says it is!
