Q: i recently bought a peugeot 206 auto on a 51 reg and the auto box has gone ive found another but this belongs to a y reg 306, does anyone know if they are the same?

A: Do you mean gearbox? transmission? Most of those early 306 models (Phase 1, to 1997) had gearboxes shared with the late 205's. 1988 - 98). This was called the M5 gearbox. Differing in top gear ratios. I used to have a link that showed a list of every Peugeot M5 and M4 (4 speed) gearbox model and its identification number....let me try to find that link now. Here is the list for 306 and 205 related gearboxes. Notice the photo of the M5 gearbox removed from the auto. http://www.suzukituning.com/PSA/MA5%20Gearbox/ma5gearratio.htm In conclusion, the 206 will be different from the 306 / 205. The 206 has no clutch cable, but a hydraulically operated clutch release. 306 and 205's have a clutch cable.
