Q: I have a 2001 Peugeot 206 and there's a noise, which I think, comes from the clutch. I say it's from the clutch because when I disengage it, the noise stops. The clutch isn't slipping, no burning smells etiher. Could this a worn release bearing and if so how urgently does this need replaced?

A: The clutch is made up of three parts. The bearing, plate and cover. The cover is fixed to the fly wheel and plate to the gearbox shaft. When you press the clutch pedal, a fork with a bearing (which is turning) pushes on the springs of the cover and lets go of the plate. You can then change gear and release the pedal which allows the spinning flywheel to trap the plate and turn the gearbox. Rightly said, it is the bearing that's worn. Difficult to say how long it will last but better book in and get the clutch replaced sooner than later. Since the gearbox comes out, always recommend to change all three parts.
