Q:

A: 1975 was the beginning of Peugeot imports to the USA. The 404 and 504 were rear-wheel drive models. There were just a few 304's with front wheel drive. 1978 was the last year for this model. 1975 last year for the 404. After that it seemed Americans only liked the rear wheel drive 504, 505, 605. With the introduction of the front wheel drive 405.... sales steadily declined. Peugeot stopped selling cars in the USA in 1991 after a disappointing sales volume of the 405 model. There are still a lot of 405 and 505's in America, mostly in California, Oregon, Maine, and Kentucky. Don't ask me why those states, but I talk with owners in those states about Peugeot REPAIR, and the parts they need. They see my name here on Yahoo Answers, and they email me with their questions. Since 1991, Peugeot has concentrated its sales efforts in Africa, India, Indonesia, China, and of course Europe. Now sold in 140 countries worldwide....but not the USA.
