Q: How much effort or knowledge does it take to type that phrase as an answer? Does it help? NOOOOO. If the person doesn't have an owner's manual, he can ask his question here, and get some GOOD ADVICE, right? There are some darn good answers in this category by men and women who actually work on their cars. I ASK YOU now, WHO needs 2 points bad enough to just say, "Look in the owners manual". NOT US! FORDMAN: of course I agree that points mean very little. I meant, why even answer at all if you can't give a reason, number, method, size, time, price etc. Other lazy examples: 'check ebay', 'your car is crap', 'idk', 'call the dealer'. I viewed 7 pages of YOUR answers, and saw none that were so abrupt and lazy as the kind I am referring to now. Keep up the helpful attitude, Fordman I AM NOT giving thumbs down here. Any honest answer is valid. FRED: if the question is "How much oil do I add..." , then the educated answer should be, 5 quarts, 5 liters, 4.5 liters... ANY FOOL CAN SAY, " check owners manual. Fred? are you educated about the questions you answer?

A: I agree with you. Saying "look in the owners manual" is as bad of an answer as "google it" or "try eBay" Lack of an owners manual to a an expensive piece of machinery like an automobile, happens to be one of my major pet-peeves. I am always happy to provide one to any&all askers that need/want one. If they are asking a Q that can be answered with an owners manual.... I assume that they don't have one. I generally answer those questions, with a link to download the owners manual, if available and also tell them which pages and/or chapter the answer can be verified.
