Need help to install an extenal electronic tachometer on my peugeot 1.4 - 2000 partner combi?

Q: Hi. I have this old electronic tachometer and would like to install it on my peugeot but the installation sheet is talking about a coil connection for the signal! My car has a black long coil pack, where do I connect the signal ???

A: The coil of an older car generates about 10,000 volts for the spark plug. Old coils sent voltage to the distributor cap via ONE wire. Modern coil packs send the voltage directly to each spark plug. I think your 'old electronic tach' will only be useable when it can receive 4 times the volt flashes from an old one-wire coil. IF you connect it to just one spark plug wire now, you will get fewer electronic signals, and I am guessing an inaccurate rpm reading. There are many places to buy an aftermarket tachometer for use on COIL PACK cars. for example: http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=MSD-8913
