Q: Nothing works, not the lights, electric windows, no click. The connections seem to be ok at the battery. Anything else to check? (can't take it to the garage)

A: I have a 1989 Peugeot 405, but it is a fuel injected petrol. Check to see if your car has a SMALL fuse box under the bonnet. (like other Peugeots from this same time period, the 205, 306, etc.) It will have probably only two fuses, both 15 or 20 amp. AND there will be a heavy yellow?? wire going to it. I have a 1993 205, and this heavy wire rusted at the connecting" eyelet, and it still LOOKED connected, but wasn't. I had no electricity at all, as you have described. Replacing the connection, and checking the fuses might help. My friends have "diesel 405's", I will talk to them later today. AAHHAAA! They say the MAIN fuses are inside the car, below the steering wheel, and especially check the heavy fuses/relays for the diesel glowplug (not your problem) and similar heavy fuses. Once, my petrol 405 would not start because I did not have the negative ground wire connected well enough TO THE ENGINE BLOCK! (after a clutch replacement job)
