I drive a peugeot 306 xnd 1900. My thermostat is broken. How long can I drive before engine breaks?

Q: I have taken thermostat out. Is it ok to drive without.

A: You do not need a thermostat at all to drive a car. I did this in Florida for 2 years. BUT!!! I was just stupid in Florida. The thermostat is necessary to keep your engine operating at a high temperature. You'll get better petrol / mileage when your engine operates at 90+ Centigrade. Without a thermostat your coolant is constantly cycled through the radiator and stays at about 70 degrees Centigrade. TOO cool to help your engine, and too cool to heat your car, and defrost your windscreen in winter. BUT IN SUMMER, on a long fast trip on the motorway...YIKES, you could overheat fast, in 10 minutes, it's too late....Head gasket warping! If your took your thermostat OUT, then you only needed 10 minutes and 10 British pounds to put the NEW thermostat back into the engine. ????? Your punishment: drive that car forever, and spend the extra money for fuel per mile. And in about one year, new piston rings for scraping against cooler cylinder walls. good luck my friend.
