Q:

A: Your 406 does not have timing marks!!! On every Peugeot I've ever owned..(104, 204, 304, 305, 205, 405, 306).. the timing marks can be found on the flywheel, and on a little metal plate next to the flywheel. However, your 406 has a more modern engine, and I quote from the Haynes Service Manual: ...' INTEGRAL AND DIRECT IGNITION: On these systems, there are no timing marks on the flywheel or crankshaft pulley. The timing is constantly being monitored by the ECU and nominal values cannot be given. Therefore it is not possible to check the Ignition Timing'... from Page 5B-6 in the following manual: It deals with the XU engines of the last 1998 models of 405, and I assume the 406 is very similar. http://www.scribd.com/doc/413510/Haynes-Peugeot-405-Service-And-Repair-Manual
