peugeot 206 gearbox problems?

Q: Hi i have a peugeot 206, 16v 1.6 GLX and I have been having gearbox problems, sometimes I am unable to put it in reverse without putting it in another gear first. I would like to know from you experts out there is it possible to replace my gearbox with a gearbox from a peugot 206 gti without any major complications? to rectify this problem and also have close ratio gear shifts on my GLX. Would I need to replace any other mechanical part to allow for this change? please advise, thanks.

A: I don't have a 206. But with your problem you described, I wouldn't replace the gearbox until I was sure I: 1. didn't need a new clutch driven plate. The current one is too thin. 2. didn't need a new release bearing, current one has worn down too thin. 3. didn't need some kind of adjustment on my gear linkage to the gear lever?. (206 may not allow linkage adjustments, idk). 4. CLUTCH CABLE adjustment. Do you have enough pedal-to-floor distance? This allows clutch to fully disengage to change gears. These answers are all cheaper and easier than a gearbox replacement. good luck. Is your current engine a 206 Gti 180?
