I have a split CV boot on my front passenger wheel and I was wondering if this would cause a rattling sound?

Q: I have recently taken the car into a garage an they have said that the rattling noise is the diffs pulling on the tensioners in the gear box??? Im not so sure - they priced it up at 900 quid. Im only getting the rattling sound when I turn Left and its not everytime. Could it be the gearbox? The split boot is on the left (Passenger) side. Before the car went into the garage it only made the rattling noise when I was going round a corner just a bit to fast, not skidding! but fast enough so that there was a bit of tension in the car - now after its been in the garage the noise happens when im going over rough terrain and round corners steadily plus a slight squeeking noise - is this the grease drying out on the bearings? A: The noise happens when you turn LEFT. This tells me, that the RIGHT CV joint is working harder to steer the car left. The RIGHT driveshaft is traveling faster. Is the right side, the side with the split rubber boot? There is no "pulling" in the gearbox by a Peugeot driveshaft. There is only turning inside the differential pinion gears. I think you are listening to 900 quid double-talk. by the way, the right side driveshaft, the longer of the two, if defective by now, costs about 160 euro (in Belgium = 110 pounds UK??) for a non-peugeot aftermarket replacement (Peug 205). If you only need the outer CV joint repaired, it is time consuming labour. Most shops will try to talk you into a complete driveshaft replacement. Plus labour, gear oil, and a new oil seal around the new shaft. Ask around. Talk and learn. Pappy: everything is cheaper in the good ol' US. You don't get much for $60 in Europe. ( 41 euro, 30 pounds) Some of the newer Peugeot CV joints cannot be opened, I have heard.
