A: I have stated many times before on this website that Peugeot's marketing goals include China, India, Indonesia, Nigeria, and other developing markets. In Iran, the Peugeot brand is fabricated by Khodro (http://www.iran-daily.com/1385/2652/html/economy.htm). Therefore, the USA is not an important marketing strategy now. Another big reason is, almost 50% of Peugeots cars have a DIESEL engine. Americans have little interest in this. Diesel fuel is more plentiful throughout the world for cars, ships, machinery, home heating, industry. Peugeots and all cars sold in Europe MUST meet a yearly exhaust emmission test and the owners pay for this test. After the car is 4 years old, you must have less than 2.0 %Carbon Monoxide in the exhaust. This is identicle to what is in the atmosphere normally. Diesel cars are also tested with the throttle held down at a high rpm. I personally think that the CRASH TESTS have lower standards than the USA, but this is certainly NOT the case with the major brands like Volvo, BMW, Mercedes, Ford, etc. Little, lower-priced cars made by Fiat, Lada, Skoda, Peugeot, Citroen, Seat....hmmm, I see them crushed like sardine cans, in accidents, on the 7:00 news.
