Q: Problem : My daughter unlocked car using remote key fob, Indicators flashed as normal, went to start it, engine turned over but did not fire up. Noticed battery lamp on dash & interior light flashing rapidly. Went to lock car with remote key button & nothing happened. Could it be the battery in the key fob is u/s - not transmitting to the fitted immobiliser transducer or could it be something more serious. battery is ok, spinning engine as normal, car had been run for 3 hours, & stood for 1 hour prior to the problem occurring so plenty of charge in battery Claire, some car remote key fobs have a miniature transmitter (transponder) which interacts with the immobiliser turning it on or off as the case may be. Up to the present we have replaced the battery on warranty - no change replaced the key battey, checked fuel filter, plugs. As I write this, the car is being checked on the diagnostics. It are a puzzle !!!

A: Sounds like an anti-theft problem. Make sure the key did not get a big shock (like falling down or being flooded with water). If your car radio does not have a security code, try to disconnect the battery for 5 minutes and connect it again: this resets the anti-theft and alarm systems.
