Q: go into 5th or reverse, and the others are very unreliable, as in it will go into gear sometimes but not others. I think that there is a loose connection between the gearstick and gearbox but I'm not sure. Anyone had this problem? Hard to fix? Cheers
A: If you had a loose connection, then it would NEVER go into that gear. Loose, as in the connecting linkage has separated, between gearshift lever and transmission?? A more likely thing to check is the adjustment of your clutch cable. If it is too loose, and your foot pedal cannot go down far enough to release the clutch plate, then it is very difficult to shift gears. Has your foot pedal sunk lower to the floor in the last few months? When was the last time you had a new clutch? How many miles on your car now?
