Q: i recently heard this term and wasnt sure what that meant. it was a very tiny car... i know its small, i think there is something more to it than that.. i know what the car looks like, i was just wondering if it was called a smart car cuz it had special features or something. i guess not though..thanks for the help
A: Smart is a company that makes small cars. Smart is owned by Mercedes Benz. They make 3 models. The Smart Fortwo Smart Forfour Smart Roadster The Smart now sold in America is the Smart Fortwo. It is new to America, but it actually came out 10 years ago in 1998 in Europe. It is a 2 seater car that uses a Mercedes Benz 3 cylinder engine making 71 horse power. This is also now the slowest car in America. There is nothing special about it. Bad reliability, expensive maintenance. The car costs $11,500 with no A/C, power windows, CD player. And the price goes up to $22,000 for those options. Who would buy a $22,000 2 seater, no trunk, slow car? It is not good on gas either. It only gets up to 41mpg highway. The bigger, heavier, more powerful, more reliable, much faster Honda Civic and Toyota Yaris can get 40mpg highway. The 1996 Mazda Protege DX can get 39mpg highway. The Diesel VW Jetta and Golf get 44mpg highway and 40mpg city. It is not called Smart car, it is called Smart Fortwo. Everyone is calling it Smart car because they do not know the name of the car.
