Q: i know this might sound like a joke, but i might be getting a rolls royce silver shadow as my first car. is this a good firt car? to the guy who made the budget comment: im getting it from a friend who does car shows for $18,000
A: Depends upon a few things... Where do you live? Sunny California? It may work there. But the Midwest? It's likely to be upside down in a snow drift during the first snowfall. Can you afford to repair it? Not only the cost of repairing it, but also consider that you may not have a Rolls repair shop in your neighborhood. If you've got a good mechanic who knows how to work on them, great. If your cousin Frankie "knows how to fix cars" this is not a good arrangement. Can you afford to insure it? I know what minimum coverage costs for a '92 Thunderbird, and I can't imagine what'd be for the Roller. But for a kid it's not gonna be cheap. Can you afford the fuel? This car gets about 9 MPG city and 12 highway. Ouch. For $18k you could do a lot worse, but buy something else with about 1/2 the money and keep saving for the Rolls and buy one after you've turned 25, when the insurance will be lower -- MUCH lower. Unless, of course, you already are 25. Whatever you do, I wish you well...
