Q: some times we can get it out by moving the steering wheel, or moving the car up and down the driveway. It has the "chip" in the key. I looked at the column, and all I could see was something electronic sitting under the key tumbler. What is this called and how much am I looking at...?

A: Replace the lock cylinder now before it gets stuck and then you have to drill out the lock. On most cars, if you remove the plastic cover under the steering column, you have access to a button the locks the cylinder into place. To remove the cylinder, put the key into ignition, turn key to the run position, and then push the button underneeth to release the lock, pull the key and cylinder out, replace with new lock.
