A: They do not save on gas. They are not cheap. They are the slowest and weakest cars in America. 1.0L 71HP 3 cylinder engine. It will be tough for going up hills since it uses an automatic transmission only. The best you would get is 41mpg highway, which is similar to the gas mileage of the bigger, much faster, more powerful, chaper, more reliable Honda Civic and Toyota Yaris. The Smart Fortwo costs $11,500 with no options. The price gets up to $18,000 for the trim level with power windows, A/C, power locks, cd player, etc. This car only seats 2 people. no trunk. Expensive maintenance and premum gas. 1.0L engine=1000cc.
