A: Stay away from older GM vehicles as most of them are extremely unreliable. The Alero however is a decent vehicle. The Intrigue is too large in my opinion for a young driver to be comfortable behind the wheel.You only mention North American vehicles in your examples but if foreign vehicles are o.k. with you, I would recommend a used Hyundai Elantra 2002 or newer. They are extremely reliable and relatively fuel efficient.Prices are low and and the higher trim levels in the newer models have side curtain airbags as well. They even have hatchback version after model year 2003.
