Q: i have a saturn sl 96..yea i noe is shitty but like people say u start off wit ugly n make it nice..people tink saturns cant be nice but it can..im plannning on buying the saturn body kit for it nxt month.. i jus wanna noe wat does the intake exhaust do to effect ur car?..n if its worth putting on it?..n like does it kill alot of gas?..is it true it makes ur car go faster so u can ease of on pressing da gas pedal?.. should i or not buy it?..i noe it cost alot..but wat u tink wud be a gud estimate for a price of a intake exhaust n dat runs well for a saturn???

A: many people like to jump straight to turbos or nitrous, but what many people dont know is that intake and exhaust upgrades not only prolong your engines life, but they can each add upwards of 30hp depending on th motor ( prob not that much for your motor though, but you would still get a definite hp gain). the motor is designed with an exhaust and intake that get just as much air in and out as the factory sees fit, but they dont leave much extra. these upgrades are hugely important if you want to do other upgrades in the future. for example, if you have a turbo boosting 8psi (ok for a stock motor) but no other upgrades, you would get around 30-45 hp gain, depending on the motor (assuming its a 4cyl) but if you have that same turbo and boost, but you also have the intake and exhaust, you could almost double that hp gain if done right. if you want to do this upgrade, your car will accelerate somewhat faster. but since you are allowing more air in and out of the motor, the ecu pumps more fuel into the motor to try and keep the air/fuel ratio right, which means you will burn a little more fuel, thats how it gets the extra hp. if you want more horsepower, you will almost always lose gas mileage, so there is definitely a price to pay for making a car more fun. hope i could help
