astra g mk4 power steering fault can you give me advice please on what is wrong with it?

Q:

A: U will have to say what the problem is b4 anyone can answer it. It may need fluid, it may need bleeding or it may have a hydraulic leak or the pump may be faulty or the drive belt is either too loose or snapped off hence pump stops. Is ur steering very heavy? then theres some answers above. Do trhe obvious thingsd first, check fluid level, if low top up, check pump drive belt, is it there if so is it loose? then adjust the tentsion, if belt has broken fit new belt. If low on fluid, top it up, then try bleeding the system by turning the steering wheel full lock to left then right and repeat a few times then recheck the fluid level, top up if required. If that doesnt work u will have to check the steering rack for fluid leaks. U will have to get under the car to check it, so u will need either ramps or jack and axle stands. Doing all this b4 u decide to go 2 a garage could save u a few bob. Lastly, if u do have ramps etc then check 4 leaks etc b4 doing anything else. Good luck. Please let me know if I have been of any help 2u. Jimmy from Essex England
