Q: I'm thinking of buying a 1998 Nissan Sentra for myself. It's $1,495 CDN. Are Nissan's reliable? Is this a good car for a first time buyer? The car has a bit of rust, but otherwise in good condition. I live in Canada and am looking for a cheap car to buy. I have my G1 now and am getting my G2 this November. Should I wait until I get my G2 before buying a car? My family and I only have a minivan now, and a car would be better for myself to drive around. What are some more cars that would be good for a first time buyer? I'm looking for something around $2,000-$3,000. I'd be able to pay off the Nissan by the end of November.

A: Yes. All Japanese cars are generally reliable. The Sentra is one of Nissan's most reliable cars. The Mazda Protege and Miata(MX-5) are Mazda's most reliable cars. Usually, the smaller cars are more reliable. That is what I noticed. If you are looking to finance and pay in monthly payments, i think you need at least 3 lines of credit to do that. By that I mean 3 credit cards. And you need time to build up your credit. It is better to wait for the G2.
