Silvia S15 Question?

Q: I live in montreal, quebec and i'd like to know if its legal to import a nissan silvia s15 from japan and register it as in storage (you don't drive it at all) and work on it until its legal (the 1999 model will be in 2014 according to the 15 years law)?

A: You're skirting a grey area, but the simple answer is no. If you go by the book. Transport Canada states a time frame that a car must be made to pass inspection if intended for road use(although they don't always check). Which although in your case is not immediate is eventual. A car can be allowed to remain if it is solely intended for off road/race use, BUT must be proven that it can not be made to comply or altered to eventually be used for on road. There are a select few individuals in Canada who have the knowledge to bring over Vehicles less than 15 years old, but they aren't sharing. And even if they did don't get your hopes up, the cost and red tape enormous. One older and rather walthy gentleman in ontario who owns a R34 GTR said "If I had my choice to do it again, I'd rather just buy a nice Ferrari..."
