Q: I have a 97 Maxima GLE (VQ30DE) & I can see arcing from the side of a coil pack. What does it mean? Thanks!!!!
A: About $900 dollars. As coils or (even plug wires) on regular cars get old spark try to take a shorter path to ground. In your case it is Thur the insulation on the side of the coil. All the coils must be replaced! Here's why! Your car has two or three cat converters that do not like engine misfire. The extra fuel from a CLY that is not sparking causes the Cat converter to overheat. Also while you have the coils out replace the platinum spark plugs with the same NGK'S. I hope your engine misfire won't cause future P0430 or P0420 cat converter codes. If some one put Bosch spark plugs in and noticed the sparking it is the extra Resistance in those plugs that may have caused the spark to jump some where it should not. 6 coils please I have not seen any good aftermarket replacement coils.
