How can I get more power out of my 2001 nissan maxima 20th edition

Q: Hello, I recently purchased a 2001 nissan maxima 20th edition with under 70,000 miles on it. The car runs great but I'm a young guy with a need for speed, Can any one help me with some suggestions on what I can modify to get more speed more power better gas millage. I Already have aftermarket light weight rims and tires and taking seats out and another job stick to the question buddy thanks but your answer is kind of...........im looking into the chip upgrade but im cautious about the air intake, im not fond of loud cars i would like mine to be as quiet as possible. How will the intake affect that ?

A: If you want more power/speed.. then your going to have to deal with loud. Chips are worthless.. all those cheap chips do is fool your engine into thinking the air is colder than it is. This makes the engine run rich.. which burns more gas and amounts to little horsepower gains. Real chip upgrades will run you about $500.. and much more horsepower can be gained with other mods. I only reccomend have the ECU upgraded if you want to raise your redline.. the engine will automatically adjust to any other mods you put on. The first thing you do to attain more power is install a intake and upgrade the exhaust. Mods to the engine are pointless without opening up both ends of the engine first. The air intake will only be louder when your accelerating. When your cruising you wont even notice.. when you rev the engine you'll get a deep rumble/sucking sound. If you get a short ram intake.. you will lose low end power and gain in the upper RPM's. With the cold air intake power gain is even throughout the revs. So far as exhaust you can get yourself a catback that attaches. I put on new headers, Y-Pipe, deleted the cat-converter and then attached a Megan Cat-Back exhaust. All told I have myself 81 more horses.. and 72Ft-Lb of torque which should be more than enough to suit your need for speed.
