Q: My Nissan Altima 2007 won't start. I thought it might be the smart key so I used the normal key to get in my car but when I insert the smart key in the slot on the left of the steering wheel it is still unresponsive, my backup key does nothing as well. I don't know what is wrong does anyone have any idea?

A: Have you tried unplugging the battery and plugging it back? Maybe giving it a jump. Is it possibly you left the vehicle in accessory mode or lights on and it depleted the battery? Then again the car has a failsafe that turns the devices off after a half hour I believe. Also if you carry a cell phone with you in your pocket, it can cause problems with the keyfob. There was a recall for the keyfobs on 07 Altimas that were basically being disabled by cell phones. Have you been upgraded? If you open your key and look inside the fob on the right side next to the square but above the number you should see an icon. if it has a two circles you have the newer design. If it has a +, it is older. Do you have a spare key you can test?
