Q: My boyfriend is thinking of getting this 1994 mercury cougar xr-7 but he'll need to put a new transmission in it, about how much would that cost? A guy from a car place said he would help put it in and the owner of the car could get him a transmission for $137 but i don't know, how much would just a transmission cost?
A: At the dealership I work at, a new transmission with labor would cost approx. $2,500.00. A used transmission must be purchased at a quality transmission shop and must have a warranty. If you buy one from a junk yard, chances are it won't last too long. Labor is a also a large part of the cost.
