i have a 98 mercury tracer and was driving over a little hill when it poped twice died out and wont start now?

Q: i first thought it might be the timing belt even though the belt only has about 6000 miles on it but the belt looked good the engine rotates but sounds like scraping /grinding doesn't sound good at all so i took the plugs out to do a compression test and the #3 plug was all bent up like something hit it.so i look down the the plug hole i can see the piston on the #1 and #3 cylinders.i give it another crank and go look in the hole and the darn pistons didnt even move so i marked the crank pully and it spins the camshaft spins but the pistons dont move im wondering did the crankshaft snap or the connecting rods snap off the crank but none of the pistons move the car had oil at the time and wasnt due for a oil change yet. most likley what im gonna do is go to the junk yard find the same engine do a compression test make shure the rings are good and the engine rotates good and just take the block and put my head on it after checking the valves of coarse anybody ever have a similer problem

A: Wow I haven't seen that in a long time, sounds like your oil didn't lube the rod bearings and they popped off. Ya a new engine is your best bet. You could then take the old one and rebuild it. "for a spare" Usually junk yards will give you a short 3 month 12000 mile warranty on a used engine.
