Where is the cabin air filter located in a 2000 Mercury Cougar?

Q: I need to replace mine and don't know where it is! .... I don't have a manual. Thanks :)

A: One add - you do not have to remove the windshield wipers. Just leave leave turn them on, then turn off the ignition when they are fully positioned in the middle of the windshield. I actually just replaced my 1999 Cougar cabin air filter this morning. It is under the passenger side cowl, under the windshield. You will need to remove the screw caps visible with the hood down, then remove those screws and the additional screws visible only with the hood up (need a star screw driver for the latter). I found I also needed to loosen the driver's side cowl. The passenger cowl then snaps off. Underneath there is a small clip that holds the frame to the air filter in place. It is straightforward from there.
