Q: I'm looking into buying a 67 Mercury Cougar in good shape. Does anyone know the price range the car should be in? Also, what are some problems I should look for when i buy (i.e rust, a/c)?

A: The same rust problems occur in Cougars as in Mustangs. You need to have a really good look at the hidden areas, such as torque boxes, floor pans, rocker panels, inner quarters, and window frames. A/C is pretty basic for all '60s cars, if its working, great, if its not, you will have to upgrade the compressor and lines to use R134 refrigerant. Its a good option to have, it will increase the value of the car overall. Price range varies, depends on the model and the options. A clean XR7 with a high performance 390 could go for upwards of $15000, a J code (428 SCJ car) would take you into unbelievable prices ($50000+). A basic 289 Cougar? Maybe $5-10000.
