I'm considering buying a 1996 Mercury Sable, Are they decent for a new driver? Any suggestions? Experience?

Q: Well it's being sold for a good price considering condition. But as I am just getting my liscense is it a good car. Dependable? I just want to check into them so I know what I could be getting myself into. Thanks in advance :) Ok so I was wrong it's apparently a 1995 not a 1996, does that change anything? It has 161,000 miles asking $1275.

A: ugh. to the poster that is whining about OBD II, you don't know what your talking about and the proof is that most cars, including the Mecury Sable, had OBD II in 1995. Theres nothing wrong with OBD II, your in the same class of people that bitched about fuel injection when it became popular. If for no other reason you WANT OBDII because when you get your car inspected, they don't put it on the dynometer, they just plug your car into the inspection machine and thats it. The 1995 Sable is a fine car, but don't pay more than $800 for one with that much miles on it. mdcbert: your stupid OBDII style oxygen sensor is exactly the same as the stupid OBDI/EECIV oxygen sensor. Why don't you get a 1980 car (1980 was the last year cars didn't have computers and stupid oxygen sensors in 49 states) and be done with it. Oh and "only the dealer has technical know how" to fix a problem that trips the check engine light? Please. Don't answer on topics you know nothing about. And only 20 codes in a EEC IV system??????? My 1981 Olds with CCC (computer command carburetor) has more than 20 codes!
