Q: The airbag light on my '97 Tracer occationally comes on at start-up, then flashes continuously. It hardly ever does this though, which is why I'm stumped. Everytime that it has flashed immediately after starting the car, I shut the car off, then restarted it. Then the light goes off as it should after a few seconds. I can drive the car for several days until the light flashes at me again. What could be causing this? Ok thanks that's a huge help. I didn't realize the flashes were actually a code, although I did notice it wasn't flashing at regular intervals. That explains that. There was a recall performed on the car relating to something airbag related...something about a revised to part to keep water from dripping on or entering an airbag module I think? There may be some other recall though that hasn't been performed for the airbag system. I'll look into that.

A: A fault.... the flashing actually is a code.. the code tells us what's wrong with the system..... it should come on and go off after 5 seconds if no issues, if it flashes after that, that is the code.. it will output that 5 times I think and then it will go continuously on... But without the code, I've got no idea, but my guess is a dirty connection. Also make sure the recall was done on the car dealing with the airbags (models around that year were involved..call Ford with the vin number to get an idea if it's affected)
