Q: My transmission is going out on my 1991 Ford Mercury Cougar and I am curious to know what type of transmission it has so that I can price rebuild kits for it. I need as detailed information as possible. Is it AOD? Is it c-4, c-6? Etc.
A: It is an AOD for sure 100%, unless someone has installed a C4 in its place, chances of which are extremely slim, to none. A C6 would not fit in that car. 1994 model year saw the introduction of the 4.6L SOHC V8 along with the 4R70W transmission that replaced the AOD. Hope this helps.
