is a mercury marauder a reliable vehicule?

Q: how is the quality and finishing? will i spend alot of money in the garage and service? how much can i expect to pay in gaz per week if i do 30 000 km per yr?? will it last long like a toyota per example? to roberta: are you serious and sure? because i am hearing alot of good things about this car, it was a fluke marketing wise, but they say its a good car....

A: The Marauder was essentially a Mercury Grand Marquis with a more powerful version of the 4.6L V-8, a much improved sport-tuned suspension, and a sportier and more attractive interior. The sales of the car flopped not because it was a bad car, but because it was not marketed properly and was sold by Lincoln-Mercury dealerships, which do not in general attract the target audience. The Grand Marquis has won awards for reliability and is a recommended vehicle by Consumer Reports. The pros to the Marauder are the muscular styling, good performance for what is one of the largest cars around, and most importantly excellent comfort, in a wide and extremely roomy cabin. It is also one of the safest cars on the road. Cons undoubtedly include 15mpg fuel economy and ownership of what is perceived to be an old man's car. You're likely looking at $120 per week in gas (I'm assuming you're in Canada where gas is over $1 per litre). Will it last as long as a Toyota?....hard to say...but from what I've observed most imports are junk after around 15 years but I see plenty of 30 year old plus North American cars on the road, some in very good condition. Given its relationship to the Grand Marquis (which is a very good seller), parts will be readily available and cheap well into the future.
