Q: I have a 2002 Mercedes-Benz c230 K coupe,I took my car to Mercedes and they said I needed a new transmission ($8,000). I could not afford that so my friend referred me to someone who has a shop and could fix it for $1500, so I let him fix it. Problem, he still has the car and it's been like a month. He bought a used or rebuilt transmission and he called and said it didn't work so he went somewhere else and bought another one , still does not work. He said now it may be an electrical problem. When I had my car it would drive but very slowly I wouldn't drive over 25mph because the engine would rev to high. Please Help!

A: Unfortunately, you are in too deep now. It would've been better for you to take the vehicle to another MB dealership to get a second opinion. The first diagnosis may be correct, but there are other possibilities. Most of the time, there is a fault in the throttle actuator which would be an electrical fault. It could be a computer issue or shifter assembly issue. Only proper diagnosis will solve the problem and I recommend you go back to an MB dealership for the proper diagnosis. You were able to drive the vehicle but not over 25 mph because it was in "Limp Mode" which is a feature that allows you to get to a safe place but tries to protects the transmission from further damage when it detects a fault in the transmission system. Good luck!
