Q: My friend insists that mercedes invented the first car. I don't think this is correct is it? If not what was the first car to be invented?
A: No, but Karl Benz is usually mentioned as the "first" guy to build a reasonably good petrol-powered car. Same company, different name. The name "Mercedes" didnt' come along until 30 or 40 years later. Mercedes is a girl's name. Mercedes cars were named after the daughter of one of Daimler-Benz's distributors. P.S. This question gets asked a lot. I continue to be amazed all the people who think the Ford Model T was the first car. How could something so silly be such a widespread myth? Wow.
