A: Yes, it's the thrust bearing in the clutch, what has happened is, the bearing has got dry of grease and it will continue making that noise until it is replaced, however on the good side, I had an old cortina mark II and it had a noisey bearing like yours, and I kept running it like that for a further two years, without failure.
