Q: This sounds bizzare but, we cant just change the plugs in our 99 towncar, it is hardwired to the coils. Is this normal? My dad is trying to replace the spark plugs and is 250 miles away, so any example pictures of the problem would be awesome. In the haynes manual they say that select models will have this setup. If this is true, this is by far the dumbest setup for spark plugs I have seen in my life.

A: they are called COPs(coil on plug). nissan started using them in the late 80s. today they are standard on just about every car made. to remove them remove the 8mm bolt that holds each one on. the plugs aren't actually part of the COP. when you pull out the COP be carefull not to break it(common when they have been in for a while). spray it down with WD40 or a penitrating oil and wiggle them out slowly. then just replace the plug like you would in any other car.
