Q: I'm thinking about getting a SC300 as a project car and these are my two choices for swaps. With the 1jz, there is less displacement, but you can easily match the power of a 2j with the right setup. It would cost more to mod the 2jz. Which one would you choose? Also what is the weight difference since the SC is a hefty car.

A: 1jz swap can be had for $2000 all day long.... that usually includes 95% of everything you'll need, 2jzgte swap will run you a good $2000 for the motor/ automatic trans set.... plus another $7-8k in extras (new wiring harness, etc) there will tons of extra parts needed for the tt 2jz and they add up quickly especially if you buy from the stealership. Personally, I would just go NA-T.... turbo the existing 2jzge motor. Tons of people have done it... the stock bottom end can hold over 700whp no problem. All you will need is a thicker headgasket, a turbo kit w/ intercooler, some type of engine management (aem ems, etc) and a built transmission. Basically this route makes the most sense because when you swap the 1j or 2j you will get bored VERY quickly with that power and you will want to go with a bigger single turbo which will cost you an extra 10-15k ontop of what you paid for the swap.
