Q: Sorry, I'm really car ignorant. I'm not even sure if the starter is the problem. My 1990 Lexus LS400 wont start. It's not turning over or making any noises at all. The lights come on and it looks like the car is getting power from the battery, but nothing else happens when I turn the key. This has happened a couple of times in the past month, but after letting the car sit a few minutes or so, it would turnover and start. Anybody think it's the starter? What do you suggest it might be? What else should I check. I thought about the battery connection but didn't think it was that since the car is getting power... just aint doing much else.

A: Lexus Ls400's are known to have starter problems. When you open the hood the gray thing in the middle with a Lexus emblem on it, the starter is directly underneath there. If you, a lot people mistake this for a battery or alternator. When you say that after you let it sit for a few minutes and then it starts lets you know that every thing should be operating as it should. In this case the starter intermittently makes contact. This is an expensive repair. Being that it is an 90 lexus a lot of plastic wiring and brittle hoses will break. From the the dealership be expecting to pay $800 on up.
