reduce weight to save gas?

Q: Hi All, I am thinking to reduce my jeep wrangler's weight to save gas. First I removed my back seats. So, my jeep wrangler become two seats and have a big cargo space. In most case, I am driving alone. In case, I need to take more than two people. Is it legal to have someone sitting in my cargo space without a seat? I am thinking to remove the air conditioner as I hardly use it. I also thinking to simply the jeep by removing the mechanical part of the 4WD. I never need to put on 4WD. RWD is good for me. Please give me some opinions. Am I doing the correct thing? Am I going to reduce a lot of weight of my Jeep? Thanks :)

A: No you cant legally ride in the cargo area with no seats. The A/C wont reduce much weight. By mechanical part of the 4wd do you mean the transfer case? You will need to do some pretty major changes to remove that since you will need a longer drive shaft that hooks directly to the transmission instead of the t-case. Your best bet is to remove things like the back seat and carpeting. Nothing is going to make a Wrangler get good mileage though.
