how much would it cost to turn a jeep into an automatic?

Q: i have a 4-speed jeep truck and i would like to turn it into an automatic. would i only have to buy the transmission or is it more complicated than that? how much is the transmission? i don't need to know labor prices. one of the older ones... i didnt think they even made those anymore.

A: The fact that your Jeep is a truck means that it's an older model. The guy who responded before me obviously doesn't know enough about Jeeps to answer properly. There are two versions of the Jeep truck. The last model of the last version (Jeep Comanche) was last produced in 1988. It was based on the Jeep Cherokee wheelbase and is basically a pickup version of the Cherokee. Changing from a 4-speed to an automatic on these models would prove to be very expensive, probably costing you as much as the truck is worth. If you don't like the tranny you might be better off selling it and buying a truck with an automatic. A good condition Jeep Comanche would sell quickly because they have a great reputation and so few of them were made. They were great trucks with great engines (most had the 4.0 six) and most of them are still on the road today. The reason why Jeep quit making them was because Ford had come out with the extremely popular Ranger and Jeep Comanche sales suffered. The even older version of the Jeep trucks, the old Willys Jeep trucks, last made in 1965, are worth a gold mine if in good condition and you would be wise to keep it original. You could sell an old Willys Jeep Truck in good condition for enough money to buy a new truck. The reason why I know you have a Jeep Comanche is because the early Willys Jeep trucks only came with a three-speed manual tranny. The Jeep Comanche came with either a four speed or five speed manual tranny or an automatic. EDIT: Why my thumbs down? Because I gave an answer based on knowledge?
