I really need help with a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee problem!?

Q: Hey people. Well just the other day i was at a drive through and i noticed my radiator gage hit about 260. Well right than and there my radiator pops. The next day i got a new radiator and a new electric fan since apparently the radiator busted since my fan wasn't working. Well we get the new fan and radiator in and it works so im like perfect!. Well later on that day the fan stops working so im like wtf? So my mechanic takes a look at it and does a direct connection from the fan to the battery and it doesnt work so we take the fan back from where we bought it and they tested it and it worked so it pretty much made us look like liars ya know. Well the guy there said it might be the relay so we bought that also and the mechanic put it in and the fan still doesn't work. Could this be an electrical short somewhere in the vehicle? i really need some help and i took it to another shop and they pretty much said they didnt know what to do. All help is appreciated Well it definitely overheats when the car is idle. The only way it doesnt overheat is when im driving on the freeway to where the wind itself makes the fan spin to release the heat from the radiator

A: If your mechanic wired the fan directly to the battery and it didn't work but it worked at the place where you got it then my best guess is that your mechanic did not wire it properly or had a poor ground somewhere. You didn't mention if your Jeep is always overheating or just when idling. As far as I know a Gran Cherokee should have a mechanical fan bolted to the engine. Make sure your mechanic checks your thermostat, and fan switch. The fan switch senses coolant temperature and turns the fan on when the coolant reaches a certain temp. These cars have many relays, make sure your mechanic checked the correct one. Also check all your fuses. Theoretically your problem could be a short or a bad ground somewhere, or a corroded terminal or connector in the fan circuit. Good luck.
