Q: Ok i have a 2000 monte carlo i use my ac alot like it never is off all summer long well here recently i have been hearing a squeal when i turn on my car and the ac is on and today when i shut off the ac the squeal stopped then turned it on and it started squealing so i have pinpointed that it is the ac compresser my brother told me hes pretty sure its the bearing so my question is, Is it even possible to just change out the bearing or is it new compresser time cuz i tell ya i cant afford that right now so maybe somebody got a rigging idea the make it last a LITTLE longer IT starts to do it as soon as the clutch engages i don;t know if that means it s the clutch bearing or not
A: If it is the bearing,it would be noisy at all times,clutch engaging or not,since the pulley is turning at all time when the engine runs.Price the whole compressor and then the clutch pulley to see the price difference,sometimes they are not much apart.HTH
